A Reflection
It often puzzled him, as he stood in front of the mirror it would walk away, it would sit on the reflected bed and read a book, the type all backwards. It made him wonder if, it was bizarre but, what if him standing here now, looking at his reflection sit with a magazine on his lap, what if he was the reflection... and waht if his reflected self was the real him, and was equally confused as to why his mirror seemed broken.
He stepped closer, he had feared this mirror since it started to take on it's own life, and he hesitantly lifted his hand to it's smooth glass surface.
The reflection looked up, puzzled at the boy on the other side, the backwards side, his fingertips pressed against the barrier.
It got up, leaving it's magazine on the bed, and stood by the barrier, raising it's own hand to the tips on the other side. It met the cold barrier, looking at the boy on the other side, the boy looking at his hand, confusion on his face, not fear anymore.
"What are you?" he said, looking up to his reflected face, its mouth hadn't moved.
He pressed his palm to the glass, stepping closer, he thought that maybe he could join his reflection, if he pushed hard enough, he could break the glass and go into the backwards world, everything would be backwards there, he would be the oldest and he wouldn't get hurt so terribly.
He was nearly there, he closed his eyes and could nearly feel the glass beginning to part for his hands.
The door opened, the glass snapped back, hard and cold, he bumped into it and stepped back, eyes watering with disappointment as he rubbed his head.
"Are you alright?"
He couldn't take his eyes from the mirror, his reflection standing, staring, its eyes sad. As if it wanted him to come through, it wanted him... why? Did it want to swap, to be on this side?
"You look great, Simon, come on, we've got to go."
"A-Alright... y-yea."
Simon stayed another moment, the reflection smiling and walking away from him, into the reflection of Robert's arms.
"Y-yea... I-I'm ready..."
As they left the house, he started to wish if he really could slip through and swap his life with his mirror-self. Just until they realise he's not about... until they miss him.
